Notes from Dialog Desain Vol. 013: Desain, Kreativitas, & Kepemimpinan
“Not deliberate. Not random. But somewhere in between”.
This principle in automatism arts lives rent-free in Angga Dwimas Sasongko’s mind. This was also a foundation when building his own production house, Visinema.
In this dialogue session, Angga talks about applying institutionalised creative processes through his leadership in Visinema in response to global challenges & cultural tensions. Building the first and only writers’ room in Indonesia, Angga disrupts the Indonesian film industry by the democratisation and decentralisation of the creative process.
To end the session, Angga emphasises the importance of building a stronger core and scalability through the intellectual property for film storytelling – citing Neri Oxman’s Krebs Cycle of Creativity.
Age of Entanglement – Neri Oxman’s Krebs Cycle of Creativity
Neri Oxman in her Journal of Design and Science (JoDS) essay ‘Age of Entanglement’ proposes a cycle model for creativity process inspired by the Krebs cycle we know in Biology class. Oxman came up with a hypothesis that “knowledge can now longer be ascribed to, or produced within, disciplinary boundary, but is entirely entangled”, thus making Krebs Cycle of Creativity’s goal “to establish a tentative, yet holistic, cartography of the interrelation between these domains, where one realm can incite (r)evolution inside another; and where a single individual or project can reside in multiple dominions.”
Further breakdown
Science: explain & predict the world around us – converts information to knowledge.
Engineering: apply scientific knowledge to the development of solutions for empirical problems – converts knowledge into utility.
Design: produce embodiment of solutions that maximise functions & augment human experiences – converts utility to behaviour.
Art: question human behaviour & create awareness of the world around us – converts behaviour to information.
