On Reframing Question and Make it Stronger

Today was a start of the new unit, and I got myself a new tutorial group with Diana as the tutor. We talked about a big fat important topic on REFRAMING THE QUESTION AND MAKE IT STRONGER. Diana asked us to describe what do we understand from our previous tutor groups about DEFINING QUESTIONS. These are what I got from our group discussion:

Firstly, most of us talked about how to create the question’s STRUCTURE. I learned from Aisha (my WWHI tutor) that a question must follow this simple structure:

HOW CAN SOMETHING (X) DO SOMETHING (Y) FOR THE PURPOSE OF SOMETHING (Z)?

From here, we can extract our subject matters (X, Y, and Z) and do further researches under that subjects. In my case, mind mapping methodology helped me a lot to dig deeper into it.

Secondly, we also talked about how a question can’t be solution-based. Diana gave an excellent example from the previous cohort on how a question can evolve through iterations with the help of a series of interventions. You can’t offer solutions inside your question, as you might have the idea for the final outcome will be without even experiencing the journey of discoveries and generating new knowledge.

When generating our question, we should ALWAYS consider this:

  1. What is the main issue?

  2. Why is it important? Does it have potentials in the market/ niche?

  3. Does your question offer area for the potential solution?

  4. Are you making any assumptions in your question?

These aspects HELP me a lot to reevaluate my current question. I discover that I have so many issues with my own question, as even myself can’t even answer all of these questions included in the aspect. What Diana wants me to do now is to go back into these aspect questions before deconstructing and reconstructing my question.

We also talked a bit about intervention, a subject matter that we will talk mostly in unit 2. Diana made the point that everyone can plan a good intervention, but what really matters are: 1. How can you TEST it? and 2. How can you MEASURE the change?

WHAT I AM GOING TO DO NEXT: REEVALUATE MY QUESTION, DECONSTRUCT, & RECONSTRUCT
